Derby Street Shoppes shopping center adds goods and services

Derby Street Shoppes mall has continued to tweak its roster of about 80 retailers, boutiques, restaurants and casual eateries by adding a professional services firm and more high-end women’s clothiers.

C. Wonder, Coldwater Creek and Roster recently left woven interlining the 450,000-square-foot open-air shopping center for various reasons.

Madewell, a trendier, similarly-priced competitor to J. Crew, is one of a few new stores slated to open this summer at Derby Street.

Madewell will open in a 3,750-square-foot space between J. Crew and Eileen Fisher.

Other women’s clothing and accessory retailers that Non Woven Interlining have opened since 2013 include Kate Spade New York, a high-end brand that sells shoes, handbags, jewelry and accessories, and Hot Mama, a retailer of designer clothing for mothers.

“Great brands like Kate Spade and Madewell give the Derby Street Shoppes customer even more chic fashion offerings,” said Laurel Sibert, VP of corporate marketing at WS Development, the retail development firm that owns and manages the shopping center.

One of Derby Street’s anchor restaurants, Jasper White’s Summer Shack, was replaced in May 2013 by Legal C Bar, a casual, bar version of the upscale seafood chain Legal Sea Foods.

Charles Schwab, a brokerage firm that provides investment-related products and services Weft Insertion Interlining, is another recent addition to the shopping center. It is the only professional services firm on the property.

“We are always looking to enhance and expand our merchandise mix to meet the market’s needs, which is what the list of additional stores and services does,” Sibert said.

She said the addition of the new stores does not imply a branding refocus at Derby Street; it is an enhancement of the shopping center’s offerings.
